Photography Lessons
If you don’t know what you are doing….photography is easy!
Whether you know what you are doing or not photography can be fulfilling and fun. But like anything, to be good at something requires knowledge of the subject matter, direction and effort. My lessons are designed to give you an understanding and direction to create better images tomorrow than the ones you took today. And of course different kinds of photography require different approaches. But there are some things that apply no matter what kind of photography you are doing. First, how your camera works will lay the foundation of capturing an image, not to mention the lens you choose to put on the camera. Second, and equally important is understanding of light and how it works. I was once told that I had to learn to see the light. My first thought was there is nothing that you see that I don’t. The real question is do you understand what you are seeing. This is one area I will do a lot of work on in my classes. Then we have the artistry of an image. This would include things like elements of composition. Things like the rule of thirds, symmetry, color harmony, foreground, subject, background and leading lines to name a few. In Professional photographers of Americas, print completion images are judged on 12 different elements. They include: Impact, technical excellence, creativity, style, composition, presentation, color balance, center of interest, lighting, subject matter, technique and story telling. Learning the 12 elements and how to use them is an excellent journey and will help you to be a better photographer.
Lets face it, it is getting so much easier for us to create a picture than it was, say before digital. If you old enough, I am sure you may remember loading a roll of film in you camera, going out and creating 24 master pieces, only to get the pictures back with half of them nothing more than blanks. Electronics have taken care of many of the calculations needed for the basics of a picture. And beyond that, are now fixing light disasters with electronic corrections that make pictures possible. Things that could not have been done with film. HDR is a great example of this.
The art of photography, to create and repeat good results, requires an understanding of the things I mentioned earlier as well as some experience. So, allow me to help you on your journey to creating excellent and beautiful image with your camera. Whether it is a point and shoot, a pro camera or your phone. We will go over what each is capable of, and more importantly, what you can do with your camera. Because a camera is only as good as the person using it.
